Uruguayan cinema will have a prominent presence at the European Film Market (EFM), taking place from February 12 to 18, 2026, as part of the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). The institutional presence will be led by the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU), under the Uruguay Audiovisual brand, consolidating a sustained strategy of international positioning, co-production, and the attraction of opportunities for the sector.

One of the central milestones will be the pitching session “Spotlight On: Uruguay – Fiction Pitches Selection,” scheduled for Sunday, February 15, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Martin-Gropius-Bau (EFM Cinemobile). During this session, four Uruguayan feature film projects in development—selected by the EFM in collaboration with ACAU through an open call—will be presented to international professionals seeking strategic partners for co-production and distribution. The selection includes projects from the production companies Passaparolla, La Suma, Tarkio Films, and Los Besos Contenidos, reflecting the creative diversity and potential of contemporary Uruguayan cinema.

In addition to the pitching session, ACAU will accompany films with Uruguayan participation featured both at the festival and the market. At the Berlinale, the international co-production ¿Quién mató a Narciso? (Who Killed Narciso?), with minority Uruguayan participation through Mutante Cine, has been selected for the Panorama section. Meanwhile, within the EFM, the series project El Abuso, produced by the Uruguayan company Alterna Media, will take part in Series Match: Germany & Ibero-America, a key international matchmaking platform.

The Berlin agenda will also include co-production meetings with leading institutions such as ICAA (Spain), Cinema do Brasil, IMCINE (Mexico), FFA (Germany), DGCINE (DR), INAP (Paraguay), Cinecittà (Italy), and Proimágenes (Colombia), as well as participation in the Global Screen Fund – Coproduction Lunch organized by the BFI (United Kingdom), strengthening bilateral and multilateral ties.

The fiction series El resto bien, currently in post-production, has been selected for the EFM market. It is an international co-production directed by Daniel Burman and Daniel Hendler, produced by Cimarrón (Uruguay) and Oficina Burman (Argentina).

Additionally, editor Magdalena Schinca will participate in the next edition of Berlinale Talents. Her application included a segment from her current project Everything Starts Here, which is currently in the editing stage.

Uruguay will also take part in the meetings of the Ibermedia Executive Committee and the CAACI Advisory Council, reaffirming its active commitment to the main forums of Ibero-American cinema.

With a diverse and strategic agenda, ACAU’s presence at EFM 2026 reaffirms the positioning of Uruguayan cinema as a reliable, creative, and competitive partner on the international audiovisual scene.
