Synopsis:
Yoaris (36) is a Cuban delivery woman working for an app who rides her motorbike around Montevideo, capital of Uruguay. She prepares the long-awaited arrival of her daughter Yoana (10) after three years being apart. Yoaris’ dream is to bring her daughter from Cuba so she can live in Uruguay with her and her partner Yosbel (35), permanently. However, reuniting proves to be difficult, time has passed and her daughter is no longer the eight-year-old kid she left behind. During one of her usual twelve-hour workdays, Yoaris has yet another motorcycle accident. She gives up hope of making any economic progress in a country where she doesn’t either feel welcome, so, after this fifth accident, she decides to emigrate again with her family, this time to the United States, paying coyotes to take them across Latin America up to the US border. In the loneliness of the city at night, while working, Yoaris is haunted by the ghost of her imminent departure. Raising the money demanded by the coyotes to take them up north is both an incentive and a countdown. Amid reproaches, hugs, screams, and kisses, mother and daughter will saw up the bills they will hide under their clothes to pay for their journey, chasing a dream that, at times, feels more like a nightmare.
