PÉRIPHÉRIQUE NORD

Paulo Carneiro, director of the film and car lover, travels 2000 km from Portugal to Switzerland, where he meets some of his compatriots who have been forced to leave their country in search of a new life. Together, they share a love of cars. In these meetings, the car becomes a stimulus to discuss issues of identity and community, thus erasing the borders between society and territory. In the cold of the night, they find escape from the harshness of the day. Périphérique Nord explores this common passion and the space of freedom it offers for these people who seem to find there, finally, a territory of their own.

Born in Lisbon in 1990. Graduated in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR and with a master's degree from the National Film School (ESTC) and HEAD – Genève. In 2018 he directed his first film, BOSTOFRIO, OÙ LE CIEL REJOINT LA TERRE, multi-award-winning and presented in more than 40 international film festivals around the world. In 2019 it was acclaimed by critics as “top 10 films of the year” according to Jornal Público. BOSTOFRIO reached more than a million viewers worldwide (festivals, television, cinemas, streaming, etc.). PÉRIPHÉRIQUE NORD premiered at Visions du Réel 2022. SAVANNA AND THE MOUNTAIN premiered at Cannes Directors' Fortnight 2024.
