Synopsis:

A Uruguayan theater director wants to tell the story of her life. A Norwegian playwright decides to write it, and a father agrees to talk about what he never talks about: his years in prison and in exile. Cecilia and Carlos, daughter and father, inspired a Norwegian theatrical work written by Elin Moe that deals with the aftermath of the Uruguayan dictatorship. As Cecilia directs the play nearing its premiere, they discuss what has never been discussed: Carlos's time in prison, exile, uprooting, identity, and art as a channel for expression.

Bio Director:

Oscar Estévez was born in Montevideo in December 1968. A screenwriter and director in both fiction and documentary, he has worked extensively in television and film. Between 2002 and 2024, he directed and wrote 7 fiction series for Uruguayan broadcast television. In documentary television, among others, he wrote and directed "Community Heroes" (2010, 2011, and 2012) for BYU International channel in the United States, which won two EMMY Rocky Mountain Awards for Best Human Interest Documentary in 2012 and Best Cultural Documentary in 2013. In film, he wrote "The Silent House" (2010), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, co-wrote and co-directed "The Night Watchman" (2017). In 2021, he released the mockumentary "The Secret of Sarah Reyles". In 2022, as co-director and co-writer, he released the documentary film "Road Home", which won the Audience Award at the International Human Rights Festival "We Have to See", that same year. In 2023, as a screenwriter and director, he released "Pending Loves", a film that won the International Comedy Film Festival in Cuenca, Spain, and was Uruguay's choice for submission to the 2024 Goya Awards. He was a lecturer in on-camera acting at IAM (Montevideo Acting Institute) and, along with Cecilia Caballero, founded and directed the acting and audiovisual crafts school "La Escena". He has served as a jury member at the FONA Awards and the festivals "We Have to See" and "Detour". Elin Mou is a Norwegian documentary producer and director based in the United Kingdom. She completed a Master's in Documentary Production in 1999 at the University of Salford. For over 20 years, she has produced television programs, documentaries, and short films for BBC, Channel Four, SKY ARTS, ITV, and others. Notable works include "Road Home" (2022), "Behind the Façade" (2021) (Amazon Prime), "Embodied Identities" (2017) (Open University/BBC), "Norway's Massacre" (2012) (NRK/BBC), "How the Other Half Learns" (2007) (Ch5), "Fish Out of Norway" (2004) (NRK), and "Converts" (2001) (Granada Television/ITV).
