Oscar Estévez was born in Montevideo in December 1968. A screenwriter and director in both fiction and documentary formats for television and film, he has made significant contributions to Uruguayan and international cinema and television. Between 2002 and 2024, Estévez directed and wrote 7 fiction series for Uruguayan broadcast television. In the realm of television documentary, he notably wrote and directed "Community Heroes" (2010, 2011, and 2012) for BYU International Channel in the United States, which garnered two EMMY Rocky Mountain awards: Best Human Interest Documentary Program in 2012 and Best Cultural Documentary in 2013. Oscar Estévez's cinematic works include writing "The Silent House" (2010), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and co-writing and co-directing "The Night Watchman" (2017). In 2021, he released the mockumentary "The Secret of Sarah Reyles". The following year, Estévez co-directed and co-wrote the documentary film "Journey Home", winning the Audience Award at the International Human Rights Festival "Tenemos que ver". In 2023, as both writer and director, he premiered "Pending Loves", a film honored at the International Comedy Film Festival in Cuenca, Spain, and chosen by Uruguay to represent it at the 2024 Goya Awards. Additionally, Oscar Estévez has contributed to the field of acting by teaching at IAM (Montevideo Acting Institute) and co-founding and directing the acting and audiovisual crafts school "La Escena" alongside Cecilia Caballero. He has also served as a jury member at the FONA awards and at the "Tenemos que ver" and "Detour" festivals.
