“Savanna and the Mountain”, directed by Paulo Carneiro, an Uruguayan co-production with Portugal, by the Uruguayan producer Álex Piperno (La Pobladora Cine), was selected to participate at the Quinzaine du Cinéastes section at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Cannes director’s fortnight is a highly prestigious section that takes place during the Cannes Film Festival and shows a selection of short films, feature films and documentaries from around the world.

The film will have official exhibitions at the Festival and in the market, making visible once again the recognition of the Uruguayan artistic and technical talent at the highest international level of Festivals.

This film adds to the history of Uruguayan participation in the different sections of the Cannes Festival, of which the following stand out:

Synopsis
The community of Covas do Barroso, in northern Portugal, discovers that the British company Savannah Resources plans to build the largest open-pit lithium mine in Europe just a few meters from their homes. Confronted by this imminent threat, the People decide to organize themselves and expel the company from their lands.
